1522  Ferdinand Magellan's ships returned to Spain and compled the first successful circumnavigation of the world.
1901  US President William McKinley becomes the 3rd president to be assasinated.  He was shot by antarchist and Polish citizen Leon Czolgosz while attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York
1941  The Nazi German government announces that effective September 19th, all Jews in Germany ages six and older must prominently display the yellow Star of David on their clothes at all times.
1966  Prime Ministere Handrik Verwoerd of South Africa is stabbed to death
1970  A TWA airliner is hijacked and ordered to fly to Jordan by Palestinian terrorists. 6 later, it is blown up along with two other Western-owned airplanes just after the passengers and crew are evacuated.
1972  Violence struck the Munich Olympic Games.  Palestinian terrorists attacked and kidnapped 9 members of the Israeli team, the terrorists demanded release of 200 prisoners.  They were conveyed to an airport where German sharpshooters opened fire killing all 9 Israelis and 5 Palestinians, 3 others were captured.
